Sรฉbastien Borget, the Co-founder and COO of The Sandbox decentralized Metaverse, shared his view on the future of Web3 gaming.
In the latest interview, Sรฉbastien Borget shared his story of how he got the idea of developing a 3D universe like a Sandbox. He said, โWhen CryptoKitties emerged, I saw NFTs as a game-changing solution โ allowing players to truly own and monetize their creations. Thatโs when we decided to rebuild The Sandbox on the blockchain, making avatars, virtual land, and assets into NFTs and launching our own token-driven economy.โ
The recent Alpha Season 4 event received great engagement, which attracted 580,000 unique players in six weeks. This has generated 1.1 million blockchain transactions and 350,000 NFT sales.ย
While disclosing the reason behind his focus on Asia, he revealed that when the company launched in 2018 during a bear market, it was an uphill task for them to get funding. However, while Western investors were hesitant to invest, Asian firms like Animoca Brands, True Global Ventures, Square Enix, and HashKey understood the potential of Web3 games and provided crucial seed funding. This early backing shows Asiaโs appetite for innovation in blockchain gaming.
As a serial entrepreneur with a background in telecommunications, Borget has been instrumental in forging 400+ brand partnerships. It also developed SAND as the second-largest gaming token by market capitalization of $1.2 billion.
