On Friday, Absurd Ventures, the new creative studio founded by Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser, shared the first glimpse into its ambitious new project, which is the ‘Absurdaverse’.
This revealed artwork features 20 distinct characters, ranging from angsty teenagers to magician-clad figures and even Vikings. The visual style appears similar to the style used in Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto games, which combined with humor and sarcasm like the animated show Archer.
The reveal comes with a caption: “Prepare to meet some new kinds of heroes (and watch them suffer).”
The Absurdaverse is set to debut through animation projects launching later this year. This project shows Houser’s intent to expand storytelling beyond traditional gaming.
Additionally, Absurd Ventures is developing an original story-based action-comedy adventure game within the same universe. While specifies on the gameplay and release timeline remain undisclosed, the announcement has sparked anticipation among fans of Houser’s previous work.
Dan Houser, a key creative force behind Rockstar’s most celebrated titles–including Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2– departed Rockstar in 2020 after an extended break after the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2. His contributions helped shape some of gaming’s most iconic narratives, from the satirical open-world chaos of GTA to the deeply emotional storytelling of Red Dead Redemption.
In 2023, Houser founded Absurd Ventures with the mission to “create new IP across all platforms and for all formats.” With the Absurdaverse, he appears to be embracing a bold, multi-medium storytelling approach that could redefine how interconnected narratives are presented across gaming, animation, and beyond.
While details remain scarce, the initial reveal suggests a universe rich in character-driven stories, dark humor, and an irreverent tone that aligns with Houser’s creative legacy.
