The nominations for the 2025 BAFTA Games Awards are out, and this yearโs lineup is more diverse than ever. With fewer big-budget AAA games in the mix, indie, and British-made titles are taking center stage, according to the official announcement.ย
Leading the nominations is Senuaโs Saga: Hellblade II, a psychological action-adventure game that follows the struggles of a Pictish warrior battling her inner demons. The game has received 11 nominations, including Best Game, Animation, and Narrative.
Along with Hellblade II, here are some other titles in the Best Game Category:
- Balatro
- Black Myth: Wukong
- Helldivers II
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
- Thank Goodness Youโre Here!
Other major contenders include Astro Bot and Still Wakes the Deep, both securing eight nominations each. The Chinese-developed Black Myth: Wukong has also made an impact with 6 nominations.
Tara Saunders, chair of the BAFTA Games Committee, praised the broad range of nominees, noting how both high-budget and indie games are competing on an equal stage. โThereโs a great mix this year. We see blockbuster titles alongside hames created by small teams, which is exciting.โ
British indie games are also shining, with titles like Thank Goodness Youโre Here!, Lego Horizon Adventures, and the roguelike poker game Balatro making waves.
Beyond the traditional categories, the Games Beyond Entertainment section is gaining attention. This year, it features emotional and thought-provoking games like Vampire Therapist, Botany Manor, and Tales of Kenzera: Zau, a game inspired by the personal loss of its developer, Assassinโs Creed actor Abubakar Salim.
The winners will be revealed at the BAFTA Games Awards ceremony on April 8 at Londonโs Southbank Centre, where the best in gaming will be celebrated.
