Nowadays, tech mogul Elon Musk has been involved in numerous controversies, ranging from his political views to bold remarks about Sam Altman’s OpenAI. Now, he’s starting a fresh beef, this time with the gaming giant.

The controversy sparked when Mark Kern, a veteran game developer known for World of Warcraft, accused Ubisoft of financially supporting “terrorist-platforming streamers.”

Kern specifically called out Hasan The Hun, a popular content creator, for promoting Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Elon Musk, never one to shy away from controversy, jumped into the debate, calling Hasan “a fraud” and “a sell-out” for endorsing the title.

Musk then took aim at Assassin’s Creed Shadows itself, calling it “objectively terrible.” His comments ignited a firestorm, dividing the gaming community into two.

Ubisoft and Assassin’s Creed’s social media accounts quickly responded to this remark with a sharo and sarcastic retort. In a pointed tweet, they quipped, “Is that what the guy playing your Path of Exile 2 account told you?”. This is the jab related to Musk’s previous gaming controversies.

This was a thinly veiled allusion to accusations that Musk had outsourced his gameplay in Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2, where critics pointed out inconsistencies in his skills and suspiciously high rankings.

As the controversy unfolded, discussions around Assassin’s Creed Shadows took a different turn. Some fans slammed the inclusion of a Black samurai character, claiming it deviated from historical accuracy. However, popular steamer FightinCowboy pushed back against this negative remark during a livestream.
