Ubisoft’s latest installment, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has made a thunderous debut, crossing 1 million players within just 24 hours of its launch. This remarkable feat shows the enduring appeal of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, despite the studio facing strong criticism in recent years over delays and game design changes.
The franchise’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account shared this achievement with the community, writing “It’s not even 4PM here in Canada and Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already passed 1 million players! Thank YOU from the bottom of our hearts for joining this adventure in Feudal Japan. We are beyond excited to start this journey with you!”
On Steam, the game peaked at 41,412 concurrent players, according to SteamDM, with over 25,000 players at the time of publication. These numbers are expected to surge as more fans immerse themselves in Feudal Japan over the weekend.
Dual Protagonists, Dual Playstyles
Assassin’s Creed Shadows introduces a fresh narrative twist by offering players the choice between two protagonists–Naoe, a stealthy shinobi assassin, and Yasuke, a fearsome samurai wielding brute strength. Each character has distinct abilities and story arcs, yet both share a common mission, restoring peace to a fractured Japan.
True to its RPG roots, Shadows offers a rich open-world experience, which invites players to explore the serene landscapes of Feudal Japan. From sacred shrines and bustling ports to towering castle towns, the game promises a deeply immersive journey. The main campaign runs approximately 40 hours, with the upcoming Claws of Awaji DLC expected to add another 10 hours of gripping content.
