The gaming community is abuzz with speculation around the possible remake of Bethesda’s iconic RPG, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. According to industry insider NateTheHate, new details about the project may emerge as early as this month or April, with a possible release before June 2025.
While no official confirmation has been provided, multiple reports suggest that Virtuous, a well-regarded studio, has been working on a full remake utilizing Unreal Engine 5.
Supporting these claims, Video Games Chronicle (VGC) has corroborated that the remake could launch as soon as April 2025. This aligns with leaks from the 2023 Microsoft vs. FTC case, which listed an Oblivion Remaster among Bethesda’s future projects. However, the game was originally expected in the 2022 financial year, a milestone that has long since passed without official acknowledgment.
Despite ongoing rumors, it remains unclear which platforms the remake might support. Bethesda has adopted a selective approach to platform exclusivity, as seen with Starfield remaining an Xbox and PC exclusive, while Doom: The Dark Ages is slated for a broader release. Given Oblivion was first launched on PC and Xbox in 2006 before arriving on PS3 in 2007. It is uncertain whether PlayStation fans will have access to this potential remake.
While an official remake has yet to be announced, fans eagerly anticipate Skyblivion, a fan-based recreation of Oblivion using Skyrim’s engine, set for release in 2025. Meanwhile, Bethesda’s focus remains on the highly anticipated The Elder Scrolls VI, though its launch timeline remains undisclosed.
With speculation mounting, players await an official word from Bethesda. If the reports hold true, RPG fans may soon revisit the mystical lands of Cyrodiil in an entirely reimagined form.
