However, the page with the price tag has been deleted after it spread like wildfire. The page pegged the title at 99 Swiss Francs, raising uncomfortable questions about the future of video game pricing.
While placeholder listings are nothing new in the pre-launch cycle, this one stood out. According to outlet Destructoid, Brack claimed the amount represented the “actual price,” not a mere estimate. The statement was enough to spark a digital wildfire, and screenshots quickly went viral before the listing vanished.
Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have yet to confirm or deny the price. But the timing of this leak could not be more potent.
For many, a $112 game feels excessive in an industry where $70 has only recently become the norm. Yet others argue that if any game can justify this price, it’s this one. However, so many people are calling it a marketing stunt.
