The Haryana Government has introduced The Haryana Prevention of Public Gambling Bill, 2025, which is aimed at cracking down on match-fixing, spot-fixing, and illegal betting in sports and elections. 

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini tabled the Bill on Tuesday, which proposes strict penalties for offenders. Under the proposed legislation, individuals found guilty of match-fixing or spot-fixing in sports will face imprisonment ranging from three to five years, along with a hefty fine of at least Rs 5 Lakh. Repeat offenders will face even stricter consequences, with jail terms extending up to seven years. 

The Bill also targets public gambling and the operation of gambling houses, which imposes a maximum penalty of one year in jail, a fine of up to Rs 10,000, or both. Members of organized gambling syndicates will be subject to rigorous imprisonment of three to five years and a fine of Rs. 5 lakh. 

Moreover, owning or operating a gambling house can lead to imprisonment of 3-5 years and fines of up to Rs 1 lakh. Repeat convictions could result in harsher penalties, including imprisonment for 5-7 years and fines between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.
