As Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) and Nintendoโs Switch 2 prepare for a major 2025 launch, there is a discussion in the market over whether the two juggernauts will ever collide.
Rockstar Gamesโ biggest title, GTA 6, is expected to launch in Fall 2025, while Nintendoโs next-generation console, the Switch 2, launches on June 5. Fans are eager to see if Rockstarโs neon-drenched Vice City epic could find a home on Nintendoโs upgraded hardware. However, experts say that the technical gap remains wide.
According to the latest details, The Switch 2 has meaningful features, including a custom NVIDIA chip with DLSS, 8GB RAM, and 4K docked output. It can handle graphically demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring with some compromises. But GTA 6 is a different beast, which is designed from the ground up for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Digital Foundryโs Richard Leadbetter called the game โtoo muchโ for even the Switch 2โs enhanced capabilities, citing its complex lighting and sprawling world.
If we look back at the history of Rockstar and Nintendo, it further tempers expectations.
While the GTA Trilogy landed on the original Switch in 2021, it arrived with bugs and performance hiccups. Major Rockstar hits like GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 never made the leap. Take-Two Interactive has also shown interest to add support for the Switch 2, but has notably excluded GTA 6 from its confirmed lineup.
